A cop won't pull you over for it, but if you're being pulled over for something else, it will be added to the ticket. CA cops are using lasers now instead of radar. A detector is about as useful as hip pockets on a lizard. By the time you know he's there, he's got your speed. I know from experience. Yes it is simply because of the vision question.
