It is illegal to mount anything using suction cups on the windshield in California and Minnesota per this :

"NOTICE TO DRIVERS IN CALIFORNIA AND MINNESOTA: State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. Other Garmin dashboard or friction mounting options should be used. Garmin does not take any responsibility for any fines, penalties, or damages that may be incurred as a result of disregarding this notice. (See California Vehicle Code Section 26708(a); Minnesota Statutes 2005, Section 169.71)"

From Garmin's Website.

ya might as well read the frigging newspaper while driving. How stupid is it to be staring at a mini TV & try to drive? If you use gps's I hope y'all are using them in the way sides not barreling down the freeway at 75 mps. Might as well have the stero on, talking on the cell phone, drinking a can of beer & look at the gps ALL at the same time ... no wonder there is road rage. Law smart, you? not so ...

The way people drive in CA, I would think I'd want as little as possible obstructing my view thru the windshield. Try the dashboard, or something...

Neither of them are illegal, but if you get pulled over with a radar detector and the cop see's it, you will most likely get a ticket, and not a warning. GPS is completely legal and a cop wont pull you over if you have something like that on your widow.

No offense but that's one lame law you got there.

yes that is true, the reason is that it allegedly blocks your vision if it is on the windshield.
